Struggling with content ideas? Here are 6 ways to tackle writer’s block
Writer’s block can be a real struggle, especially when you aren’t used to creating content regularly. To help you get past this obstacle, here are some easy and proven ways to help you get over that initial stumbling block, and start writing insightful, valuable content.
1. Note down ideas and topics
It’s never easy to come up with a theme or topic on the spot – we all have times when we feel more or less creative. So it’s good to have a list of topics or subjects you’d like to address in your social media and in blogs. Get into the habit of carrying around a small notebook, and jotting your ideas down when they come to mind. Then it will be there and ready to use when it’s time to create new content.
2. Put yourself in your reader’s shoes
As a business owner, you’ll have an idea of what type of person your client is. What would you want that person to know? What piece of insight or information could be helpful to them in their journey of finding solutions?
Answer those questions and you’ll have a basis for numerous pieces of content.
3. Highlight a recent victory
Experience is a great teacher. If something has gone really well for you or a client, why not highlight it in your social media content or blog?
Conversely, if you’ve had a setback, you can share what went wrong and what you learned. That’s a level of honesty that most business owners don’t ever achieve. It will show customers that you’re honest, while giving you an opportunity to examine your own business practices.
4. Listen to your clients and partners
You don’t need to be creative to be a fantastic content creator. Just keep your ear to the ground and see what the people around you are talking about.
If you’re hearing about something more than once or twice a week, it’s probably worth sharing in a content piece. Engagement is generally much greater when discussing current topics.
5. Look at the calendar
What would you want your customers are readers to know in seasonal periods, at the start of a new year, or during the slower months? Are there certain times in your business or industry when distinct issues or events occur?
Any of these can make for great content topics.
6. Look at what’s changing
If your industry is going through major transitions or changes, you might want to address this in your content. Doing so will show your customers you’re paying attention, and possibly even leading. It also helps to prepare them for things that might happen in the future. Looking forward will give you authority.
